Foundation Training Program
Our foundation training program is designed to give horses a solid start or reset with clear, consistent groundwork and riding basics. This program focuses on building trust, respect, and understanding while developing softness, responsiveness, and confidence in the horse. Whether working with young horses or those needing a refresher, our approach emphasizes proper fundamentals to create a well-rounded and willing partner.
Truck-in
Looking for a place to ride without full-time boarding? We welcome haul-in riders to enjoy our facility for schooling rides and lessons, as space allows. Riders are welcome to bring their own insured outside trainer with prior approval. Current vaccines, a negative Coggins, and signed waivers are required before use of the property.
Foaling Care
We offer attentive foaling care for mares staying with us to have their foals. Mares are housed in spacious 12x20 foaling stalls and have access to safe turnout options in a quiet, supportive environment. Each mare receives close daily monitoring, individualized management, and communication with owners throughout their stay.

- ASTM/SEI certified helmets are mandatory for all riders under 18.
- Proper riding boots with a distinct heel are required to prevent foot-slip.
- Long pants (breeches or jeans) must be worn to protect against chafing.
Arrival & Preparation
- Please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled lesson time.
- Riders are responsible for grooming and tacking their assigned horses.
- Check-in at the main barn office upon arrival for arena assignments.
Cancellation Policy
- A minimum of 24 hours' notice is required for all cancellations.
- Late cancellations or no-shows will be charged the full lesson fee.
- In case of extreme weather, we will contact you to reschedule at no cost.

What should I wear for my first riding lesson?
Safety is our priority. All riders under 18 must wear an ASTM/SEI certified helmet and boots with a distinct heel. Long pants, such as breeches or fitted jeans, are required to protect against chafing while in the saddle.
Do I need to own my own horse to take lessons?
Not at all. Waters Edge has a superb string of school horses that we will pair with each student.
How early should I arrive before my scheduled time?
We recommend arriving 15 minutes early. This allows you to check in at the main barn office, sign any necessary waivers, and observe the current ring etiquette before your session begin.
What is the minimum age for riding lessons?
Our standard lesson programs typically begin at age 6. For younger equestrians, we offer specialized lead-line sessions focused on comfort and balance under direct supervision.
What happens in bad weather?
In the event of extreme weather, we prioritize the safety of our riders and horses. We will contact you directly to reschedule. Lessons typically continue in light rain within our covered arena facilities.
What rider levels do you accommodate?
We offer instruction for First-Time riders (Introduction), Novice (Introductory), and Intermediate.
How do I get started with my first booking?
New students should book an 'Introduction Lesson'. During this session, we assess your level, introduce you to the horse, and discuss your long-term equestrian goals.
